MTI Gets MD Approval
Mortgage Training Institute, a national training organization specializing
in mortgage industry education, will be helping fulfill Maryland's new education requirement that all mortgage
originators with less than three years experience take an approved 40-hour training course.
The Maryland Office of Financial Regulation has given MTI approval to conduct classes for those wishing to become
or continue to be mortgage originators in Maryland. Individuals originating loans in Maryland that do not have
at least three years of experience in the mortgage lending business must complete the course and pass a written
examination by Jan. 1, 2007.
New applicants with less than three years experience must also meet the same requirements to obtain a license.
MTI has developed a 40-hour live class that specifically meets the educational requirements that Maryland has mandated
and is teaching this course on a monthly basis in Columbia, Md.
Originators that have between three and 10 years of experience in the mortgage business must complete 20 hours
of approved continuing education every two years and those with 10 or more years of experience must complete six
hours of approved continuing education every two years. MTI also provides approved continuing education courses
in live, online and self-study formats. "We have been teaching continuing education classes for Maryland for
a while now and are excited to now offer this high quality training to those in need of the 40 hours of licensing
education," says Jon Exley, MTI's vice president of operations. "We are currently one of only three companies
that are offering this newly required training and feel that it is important to give everyone the ability to enter
this great business with the best education available."
In addition to Maryland, MTI is an approved mortgage-training provider in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois,
Indiana, Louisiana, Montana, Nevada, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas and West Virginia.
