In this section of BrokerUniverse we examine a subject of key importance
for mortgage originators every month, based on special reports that run in our sister publication, Origination News.

Recruiting & Training
Attracting Talent
To be successful, any business needs to attract the right people to work for it.
Thus the recruiting and training process is a cornerstone of developing a thriving enterprise.
The recruiting process is a sales effort on both sides of the table. Companies need to be able to sell themselves
in order to be able to attract top talent. It has been said that if a company cannot sell itself to a potential
hire, how can it sell its services in the marketplace.
On the other hand, job applicants need to sell their skills and abilities to the potential employer. The interview
process is about seeing whether a person is the right fit for an individual business. What makes a person the wrong
choice at one enterprise could make them the perfect candidate for another.
The other part of the equation is training. The mortgage broker industry is taking the lead and has encouraged
state laws be passed mandating both beginning and continuing education.
In this Special Report, read how the New York Association of Mortgage Brokers, after a 20-year campaign, finally
got the state Legislature to pass a bill that includes education requirements.
MortgageIT executive Gary Bierfriend established a hiring culture at the company where chemistry is put ahead of
profits. Read about how that will stay the same after the company merges with Deutsche Bank.
There are also a number of items, which address the hiring process and even behavior for newcomers in the workplace.
