MBA Offers Designation for Quality Assurance Pros
By Brad Finkelstein
WASHINGTON -- CampusMBA, the educational arm of the Mortgage Bankers Association
here, is offering a new industry designation to recognize quality assurance professionals.
It is called Certified Quality Assurance Professional and is open to both members
and nonmembers of the trade group.
"Quality assurance is key to the successful operation of mortgage company
as well as customer retention. The professionals in this field must understand all aspects of the mortgage process,"
said Dan Thoms, vice president of MBA education and business development. "The Certified Quality Assurance
Professional designation will recognize those individuals performing these tasks now for their professional excellence
and will help them become leaders in their field and their company."
The CQAP program promotes current quality assurance practices, emphasizes industry
training and ensures ongoing subject matter expertise through three levels of certification. The certification
levels are based on the candidate's experience and knowledge, recognizing core competencies and providing a structured
development path. To begin the program, candidates should have one or more years of professional quality assurance
experience. Candidates then must successfully complete three levels of certification, with each level containing
a series of Web-, print- and classroom-based courses. Upon successful completion of the three levels, comprehensive
written exams, and a sample quality control case study, candidates will be awarded the CQAP.
Enrollment and curriculum for Levels I and II of the CQAP course are now available.
Level III will be available in 2006.
Separately, CampusMBA has entered into a partnership with the University of Kentucky
to offer a series of courses in mortgage banking for undergraduate students. Each of the three modules of courses
will be worth three credit hours. Upon completion of the three modules, each comprised of three Web-based courses,
students will earn a Certificate of Mortgage Banking.
"Mortgage banking is a major part of the finance and business environment
in this country, and something that has long demanded increased attention in undergraduate curriculum," said
Mr. Thoms.
"The University of Kentucky is an ideal partner for this program, and CampusMBA
is excited about working with them to increase the educational choices for UK students."
The modules, with the courses offered in each, are: Introduction to Mortgage Brokerage
and Mortgage Banking. Classes include mortgage banking primer, origination basics, and closing principles and procedures;
Mortgage Servicing. Classes include basics of mortgage servicing, escrow essentials and insurance servicing; and
Ethics in Mortgage Underwriting. Classes include fair lending essentials, ethics in mortgage lending, and fraud
detection and deterrence.
