Special Reports

In this section of BrokerUniverse we examine a subject of key importance for mortgage originators every month, based on special reports that run in our sister publication, Origination News.

Loan Origination Systems

Not too long ago, some observers of the mortgage technology marketplace were having a discussion and one of the topics was have we reached a point of maturity for loan origination systems? The feeling was that we had. However, that perception was erroneous, as recent events have shown.

There is still plenty of room for innovation and growth in the LOS market. The symbol of that is the competition between Ellie Mae and Calyx.

In this Special Report, read how the two sides have several battlefields where they are competing for hearts, minds and wallets of mortgage brokers. Ellie Mae and Calyx are fighting their dispute out in the judicial system and in the offices of mortgage brokers.

The Special Report also looks at the business philosophy of Mortgage Builder Software Inc. The company said its builds its systems around the customer's processes rather than having the customer build its processes around the technology.

Originators have a competitive edge when they are able to go to the point-of-sale to originate the loan. Fidelity National Financial's Empower division has released a tool to enable originators to do just that.

Finally, the Special Report looks at where loan origination software will reside in the future. Right now, most software resides on the individual's computer. But experts believe that in the future, originators will be working over the Web.
