Fiserv Offers Scholarships
BROOKFIELD, WI -- Fiserv Inc. here began offering a program that offers
college scholarships to children of the company's employees in conjunction with the celebration of its 20th anniversary.
Called the Fiserv Scholarship Program, the plan will award 20 scholarships a year
based on a combination of academic performance, financial need, leadership, work experience, and career and educational
goals.
Leslie M. Muma, Fiserv president and chief executive officer, said that the new
program provides further evidence of Fiserv's deep belief in the value of education.
"We have worked hard since our founding in 1984 to continue the education
of our employees - whether in our own classes or in university courses," Mr. Muma said. "This scholarship
program provides new opportunities to children of our employees as we embark on yet another milestone in our growth."
Fiserv was formed July 31, 1984, through the combination of Sunshine State Systems
of Tampa, Fla., and First Data Processing of Milwaukee. At the time, Fiserv had $21 million in revenue, 160 clients,
350 employees and two locations.
Fiserv now is an international organization with $2.7 billion in revenue, and
more than 21,000 employees, 15,000 clients and 245 locations. Fiserv is the acknowledged leader in several industries,
including processing for U.S. banks, credit unions and savings institutions, and is among the leading providers
of mortgage processing, health plan administration, securities clearing, and administration services for self-directed
IRAs and 401(k) plans.
Norm Balthasar, Fiserv's chief operating officer, said the scholarship program
helps to recognize the importance of people to the company's success.
"We've said since day one that 'people make the difference,'" Mr. Balthasar
said. "Many companies have similar slogans, but those are words that guide Fiserv's daily operations and that
shape every decision we make. We truly believe that Fiserv's people are the reason for our success and we hope
this program can say thank you for those efforts."
