Special Reports

In this section of BrokerUniverse we examine a subject of key importance for mortgage originators every month, based on special reports that run in our sister publication, Origination News.

Lead Generation

Collecting The Best

For those of us who grew up on the seashore, collecting shells was a favorite pastime. However, we did not want just any old shell, we wanted the best looking.

It works the same way for mortgage lenders. When collecting a lead, either from your own database or purchased from a purveyor, the names to be collected have to have the best characteristics.

Sometimes that has not been the case, and the mortgage originator has wasted money paying for the lead and then wasted more following it up.

Then there are concerns with how some of these leads are obtained. Many leads are generated through unsolicited e-mails sent out in bulk to American consumers.

Mortgage spam is so prevalent that it is often mentioned in the same breath as pornography and Viagra by consumers who have received at least one too many e-mail pitches for these products. And the states are moving to put a stop to it.

In this Special Report, read about the legal front for marketing, including a new law in Virginia that criminalizes the sending of spam.

For those interested in new ways to market, former Money Store spokesman Jim Palmer is rolling out a turnkey marketing program for brokers.

Also read about how a veteran mortgage broker, Ken Brown, is marketing a new lead generation program tied to a toll-free
telephone number.
