SCME Mortgage Bankers Partners With Give2TheTroops.org
By James Comtois
SCME Mortgage Bankers Inc. is getting into the holiday spirit. The San Diego-based wholesale residential mortgage lender has partnered with nonprofit philanthropic organization Give2TheTroops.org to ship free goods and products to U.S. soldiers stationed abroad.
Andi Grant, a Marine wife, formed Give2TheTroops.org in late 2002 to show U.S. troops that communities in every state support and appreciate them. SCME’s employees added to the efforts of the national community created by Give2theTroops.org by donating items of convenience and comfort to troops in an effort to support the armed forces. SCME’s participation was well received by U.S. soldiers throughout the world.
SCME enlisted the assistance of its employees in order to give back to the service men and women in uniform who are separated from their families in combat zones throughout the world.
According to Matt Schiff, spokesman and brand manager for SCME, the company is often eager to participate in philanthropic organizations. “We try to get engaged in as many philanthropic groups as many as possible,” he said, citing the company’s involvement with the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA in San Diego that awards college scholarships to eligible high school seniors.
Mr. Schiff added that this is the first time SCME has partnered with Give2TheTroops.org or any military philanthropic organization. “It’s the first time we've partnered with Give2TheTroops, but certainly not the last,” he said.
The donation collection from SCME’s employees yielded 38 boxes filled with such items as food, toiletries, prepaid phone cards, batteries, crossword puzzles, disposable cameras, video games and DVDs. These boxes were then sent to soldiers in many branches of the armed forces stationed in combat areas all over the world.
SCME was founded in 1984 and offers an array of prime, alt-A, expanded alt-A, conventional, nonconforming and government loan products.
