Shore Mortgage Recruiting 150 New Employees

It's seeking bilingual mortgage employees

By James Comtois

Contrary to the industrywide trend of downsizing and layoffs, a full-service mortgage company here specializing primarily in government loans offering new mortgages as well as refinancing services is recruiting employees.

Shore Mortgage said that it is seeking to hire 150 new employees in several capacities, including underwriters, account executives and loan officers. According to the company, this will increase its total employment numbers by 40%. "We're focusing on what we've done for the last 20 years since before the nonconforming collapse, which is government loans," said Robert Rahal, president of Shore Mortgage. "What's happened during the collapse is people looking for alternatives, and government loans is one of them."

Established in 1984, Shore Mortgage has five locations throughout the Detroit area and has shown a consistent growth pattern. It has a close association with the southeastern Michigan real estate community and is one of the prominent FHA lenders in the state.

Because of its steady growth, the mortgage company is seeking new employees including bilingual mortgage professionals to service its current client base as well as branch out to emerging markets. "We're picking up stride in our model it's taken on its own course. Our clients have utilized this in the past, so we provided them those resources. It's now a matter of offering this to a larger geographic, so we now need a larger staff," Mr. Rahal added.

Positions are available in Birmingham, Canton, Roseville and Taylor with training to be completed in the Birmingham office.

Mr. Rahal said that the recruiting process has been going according to plan. "In the last 60 days or so we've brought in about 40 new staff members and they're going through training. Getting people trained has always been the task at hand and there's no shortcut to it."

He also added that specializing in government loans has enabled Shore Mortgage some stability in the market, hence the active recruiting. "There's some stabilizing forces attached to [government loans], there's a prerequisite of income and analysis package there. It's not a fly-by-night practice and has some scruples built in. It's nothing new and we were never really into the nonconforming loans ... we were always a little more conservative overall."

According to Shore Mortgage, mortgage professionals with experience in closing, processing, underwriting, servicing, post-closing, accounting, secondary marketing, quality control, information technology or customer service are encouraged to apply for the full-time positions by either faxing their resumes to 248-433-0233 or e-mailing them to careersshoremortgage.com.
