NC Company Hiring As it Expands Ops

Even though many non-depository mortgage banking firms are cutting heads, Citizens Home Loans here says it is hiring. "We're looking to add people on the Eastern Seaboard and in California," company CEO Patrick Sutherland said.

He also said the company - which specializes in the immigrant/emerging markets niche - also wants to partner with homebuilders. "We want to hire LOs and account executives," said Mr. Sutherland.

A privately held company, CHL funds mortgages in 31 states, using retail and wholesale means.

It recently hired 12 retail LOs in the Greensboro area, most of whom worked for the now-defunct American Home Mortgage of Melville, N.Y.

The CEO would not disclose CHL's loan volumes. He said the company funds Fannie Mae and Federal Housing Administration loans. "We are staying away from Wall Street," said Mr. Sutherland.
