Lead Generation: Bringing
in Business
Building Mental Toughness
A bigger key than the physical.
COLUMBUS, OH -- Toughness is the hallmark of performance champions, but true toughness
refers more to the mental aspects rather than the physical, said a business and sports consultant.
Leif H. Smith is the president of Personal Best Consulting LLC here. He has five
tips to help individuals improve their mental toughness.
- Learning to let things go. "Do not let bad performances affect you. Learn
not to allow any problems or concerns in your personal life to affect your performance. If you allow yourself to
get bogged down by past bad performances, you will never be able to move forward towards better current and future
performances."
- Focus on the present, which Dr. Smith said, "This tip might be most difficult
tip to follow." He said people don't focus on what is currently happening, rather what has happened before
or could happen tomorrow. "Meanwhile the current situation passes without us giving it our full attention.
Focus on the present and you will become much more confident and ready to perform."
- Stay positive. If one wants to feel good, he or she need to focus on the excitement
of performing or even on "the opportunities that failing gives you to learn something about yourself."

- Love the fight more than the finish. "Champions in every field care more
about doing their best and fighting the good fight than they do winning. If you can sit back at the end of the
day and know that you fought the good fight, you can be proud," he declared.
